![]() HomeFINISHING THE DREAMThe ladies of Sigma Pi Alpha Sorority, Inc. are proud to present the first annual Finishing the Dream 3K Run/ Walk on March 8th 2009. The 3K Run/ Walk will be held at Balboa Lake in Van Nuys. The address is 6200 Balboa Blvd, Encino, CA 91316. The goal of Finishing the Dream is to raise funds and awareness of AB 540 students. Our goal for this first annual event is to raise at least $7,500 dollars in order to grant two awards this year. WHAT IS AN AB 540 STUDENT? An AB 540 student is an undocumented student who has earned a diploma from a California high school and attended a California high school for at least three years. These students qualify for in state tuition but do not qualify for financial aid. The majority of these students come from immigrant familes and can not afford to pay the high tuition rates. It is our goal to make attending college easier for these students. SPONSORSHIP Interested in being a sponsor? Sponsorship is broken into three categories: Gold: Corporations, organizations or individuals that contribute over $500. Pearl: Corporations, organizations or individuals that contribute over $250. Emerald: Corporations, organizations or individuals that contribute over $100. SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS Our Cultura award will be a $2,500 scholarship that will be granted to an undergraduate student who has shown commitment to their community. To be eligible the student must be enrolled or will be enrolled in a two or four year institution by September 2009. Our Fuerza award will be a $5,000 scholarship that will be granted to an AB 540 student who has shown determination in their undergraduate career and is now working towards a graduate degree. Students who are currently enrolled in graduate school or who will be enrolled by September 2009 are eligible for this award. Sigma Pi Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1996 at the University of California, Berkeley by nine women who saw the need to create a close network of Latinas who want to make a difference in the communities starting with themselves.
